Gucci Now Accepting Apecoin Payments Via Bitpay

Italian high-end luxury fashion brand, Gucci is now accepting ApeCoin as payments for in-store purchases in the United States. ApeCoin is a new addition to a list of cryptocurrencies Gucci accepts for the purchases of their products in their selective boutiques in the US. Now, customers can pay for Gucci products using ApeCoin through BitPay. Gucci on Tuesday said this is yet another step in the House's exploration of Web3.

In their Twitter account, Gucci said, “Now accepting ApeCoin payments via BitPay, select Gucci boutiques in the USA expand the range of cryptocurrencies available for in-store purchases, yet another step in the House's exploration of Web3”.

All of Gucci’s directly controlled locations in the U.S. now accept 10 different cryptocurrencies as payment, and the rest will open in the first week of August.

“We added ApeCoin and Euro Coin because customers of our luxury merchant partners asked for it,” said BitPay CEO Stephen Pair. “They asked, so we did it.”

ApeCoin is not the first crypto that Gucci accepts. In May, some Gucci stores in the U.S. started taking cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin, as well as five dollar-pegged stablecoins.

In addition to Gucci, luxury brands such as Balenciaga, Off-White, Phillip Plelin, and luxury retailer Farfetch started accepting cryptocurrency payments this year.
