Yuga Labs organizes 2nd trip to the Otherside metaverse

Yuga Labs, the company behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club, has unveiled a new adventure into its Otherside metaverse, which aims to provide a novel and exciting experience for users.

Break on through, to the Otherside

This new venture comes on the heels of last summer’s inaugural First Trip, where Yuga Labs teamed up with Improbable to provide a real-time 3D world with 3D audio that was accessible to 4,500 players.

With the Second Trip, the company has expanded upon its initial success by featuring an increased number of participants, fresh environments, a wider array of art styles, personalized avatars, and novel gameplay mechanisms.

The launch event was attended by thousands of users, who were all able to interact in real-time, and the new experience has a greater capacity than its predecessor.

Bringing the metaverse into life

The Otherside belongs to the developing metaverse, a network of interconnected virtual worlds, and Yuga Labs is one of the contenders striving to bring this metaverse to life.

As part of their efforts, Yuga Labs extended an invitation to holders of Otherdeed NFTs, which are non-fungible tokens purchased for the Bored Ape Yacht Club, to participate in the Second Trip. Yuga Labs is a strong contender in the “metaverse” field, having raised a whopping $450 million in March of 2022 and initially selling 55,000 Otherdeed NFTs, which grant virtual land ownership.

Without any need for downloads, players could access the experience through a basic web link. The game was set in a waiting world called Infinity Space, where Improbable gauged its capacity to accommodate the number of players joining the experience.

Detailing the Second Trip

Players were subsequently ushered into a fresh environment by means of a portal and were separated into four teams. The objective of the game was to retrieve magical blobs and deposit them with the toads, who would then use the blobs to breach a new portal.

Multiple teams vied against each other to gather the greatest number of blobs in a high-stakes competition, resulting in a cumulative collection of millions of blobs directly correlating with the size of the player base. All the teams strived to amass magical blobs and deliver them to the toads, which in turn deployed them to create a new portal.

The CEO of Yuga Labs, Herman Narula, was enthusiastic about the triumph of the event. He disclosed that Second Trip’s inauguration was but the first of several forthcoming surprises, and the company intends to forge ahead in creating distinctive content that distinguishes itself from its competitors.

Compared to its predecessor, the Second Trip boasted a significantly larger attendance across diverse environments, making it more readily accessible to players. Yuga Labs stands as one of the few companies striving to craft a compelling “metaverse” experience, with the inauguration of Second Trip firmly positioning the enterprise as a frontrunner in the race for the metaverse crown.

With each Otherdeed NFT valued at approximately $2,920, the tokens have resulted in secondary sales exceeding 500,000 ETH, equivalent to more than $800 million.
