TOP 10 MOST EXPENSIVE NFTs SOLD IN Q-2 2021

No. 10 – Quantum ($ 1.58 million)

 

The first NFT ever created was 'Quantum'. It is an octagonal animation by New York artist, Kevin McCoy. He created this art piece on May 3, 2014 as part of a presentation at Rhizome’s Seven on Seven Conference. According to McCoy, this work represents the new world coming into existence. Three years before the term NFT was used, it became the first work to be associated with a certificate of ownership in May 2014.

A day after 'Quantum' went on sale, it reached about $140,000. However, it was sold for $ 1.58 million.

No. 9 – Death Dip ($ 1.58 million)

 

Death Dip is a non fungible token on SuperRare. XCOPY is London based crypto-art pioneer who has been minting NFTs on SuperRare since the platform's earliest days in 2018. His art piece 'Death Dip' was only the 14th NFT that was offered on the website and now it is considered as one of the most expensive and valuable NFTs that has been sold until now. The buyer who goes by the handle 4156 collection praised XCOPY on Twitter after the sale as 'The most important living artist'. This NFT was sold for $ 1.58 million.

No. 8 – The First Tweet ($ 2.9 million)

 

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jack Dorsey sold his first ever tweet as an NFT for  over $ 2.9 million. The tweet says, 'Just setting up my twttr'. It was posted by Dorsey on March 21, 2006. According to news reports, there was a bidding war over the NFT of Dorsey's tweet between tech entrepreneur Justin Sun and Bridge Oracle CEO Sina Estavi. Estavi made a bid of $ 2.9 million and won. He also bought the famous NFT tweet of Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla for $ 1.1 million.

In March, Dorsey said that all the proceeds from his NFT sale would be converted into Bitcoin and would be donated to GiveDirectly. It is a charity that gives cash to people living in poverty.

No. 7 – Replicator ($ 4.1 million)

 

Replicator is a digital artwork of Michah Dowbak also known as Mad Dog Jones. He tokenized it as an Ethereum based NFT. The uniqueness of this NFT has developed a great interest for buyers. 

Replicator comes as a still image as well as a 50 second video with animation and effects. It shows an office space with a photocopier set amidst the backdrop of Los Angeles at night. Mad Dog Jones released a series of 100 pieces Nifty Gateway for $1 per piece but this NFT had been sold in the market for about $ 4.1 million.

No. 6 – Stay Free ($ 5.4 million)

 

Stay Free is an original art piece by Edward Snowden that was sold for about $ 5.4 million or 2,224 ETH. This NFT is an image of Snowden's face that has been made from pages of a US appeals court decision that ruled the mass surveillance program Snowden exposed had violated US law.

Stay Free is the only NFT produced by Edward Snowden. 

This NFT is a one of a kind art piece being auctioned on behalf of the Freedom of the Press Foundation.

No. 5 – Ocean Front ($ 6 million)

 

The graphic designer and NFT artist Mike Winkelmann also known as Beeple has sold his art piece 'OceanFront' for about $6 million. Oh my sweet Lord! Yes, you heard it right. This art work by Beeple aims to speak to the current earth’s climate change challenge. It features a tree sitting on an image of trailers and shipping containers sitting atop a platform on an ocean floor.

This artwork was reportedly part of Beeple's 'Everydays' series and was auctioned on the Nifty Gateway marketplace.

Justin Sun made the bid of 6 million dollars for this NFT art and won. Beeple announced the winner of his Twitter account and also mentioned that the money would go to charity.

No. 4 – CrossRoads ($ 6.6 million)

Another great work of Mike Winkelmann (a net artist who goes by the name Beeple) is 'CrossRoads'. He sold this art piece for approximately $ 6.6 million at Nifty Gateway. Nifty Gateway is an online cryptocurrency marketplace for digital art. 

This artwork is considered as one of the most expensive digital art works to be auctioned. 

It comprises an encoded picture or a video document, joined by an advanced mark that can not be copied. It gives purchasers the affirmation that their buy is a valid duplicate.

No. 3 – CryptoPunk #7804 ($ 7.57 million)

 

CryptoPunk is a computer generated avatar of a teal colored, pipe smoking alien wearing a hat and sunglasses. According to news reports, it has been sold for 4,200 ethereum, which equates to approximately $7.57 million. It has undoubtedly set the record for the highest amount paid for a punk as the digital collectibles marketplace continues its meteoric rise.

CryptoPunks are basically 24×24 pixel art images that are generated algorithmically. These were initially developed and released by Larva Labs, a New York based software firm, in 2017. There are 10,000 unique CryptoPunk characters. They were all free to be claimed by anyone with an ethereum wallet.

No. 2 – CryptoPunk #3100 ($ 7.58 million)

 

The owner of the rare CryptoPunk 3100 wishes to get around 3500 ethereum (ETH) for this unique NFT which is around $91.64 million in value. If the owner had sold it for the desired amount, it would have topped Beeple's most expensive NFT as well. However, it was sold for $ 7.58 million. The Larva Labs issued Cryptopunk 3100 on March 11, 2021. A few years back, the Cryptopunk 3100 was sold for 8 ETH or $2,127 at the time of sale.

No. 1 – EveryDays: The First 5000 Days ($ 69.6 million)

Non Fungible Token (NFT) artwork and collectibles have unquestionably shocked people from all around the world and NFT artists have made millions of dollars selling these products to potential buyers. 

The most expensive NFT to have been sold until now is Beeple's 'Everydays: The First 5000 Days'. It had been sold for $ 69.6 million. It was auctioned at Christie's. According to the auction house, Beeple is considered as one of the top three most valuable living artists. 

He has developed a large fan base, with around 2.5 million followers across social channels. This art piece is a digital collage of 5000 images captured by Beeple. This work of Mike Winkelmann has wowed people's expectations.
