The Sandbox Held Its First Wedding, Hollywood Actor Auctions Picture Of Eye As An NFT

Decentralized blockchain-based metaverse The Sandbox has hosted its first hybrid digital and real-life wedding on its metaverse.

Singaporean couple Joanne Tham and Clarence Chan, the bride and the groom, CEO of music company Bandwagon, commemorated their wedding event on Saturday in a “70s disco glam” themed party. The event was organised in  a digital replica of Singapore’s well known Alkaff Mansion.

The bride and groom were physically present at the hotel venue  along with some guests, their digital avatars were also present within The Sandbox metaverse and could be seen by guests who joined remotely. The metaverse wedding was organised by The Sandbox co-founder and chief operations officer Sebastien Borget in a digital avatar form.

After their first virtual kiss as husband and wife, the couple exited the Metaverse to proceed with their event celebrations in a hotel venue where they were physically present  with their guests.Their digital avatars were also present within The Sandbox metaverse and could be seen by invitees who joined remotely.

This matrimonial event was the partnership between 1-Group, Smobler Studios and The Sandbox, with Web3 design agency Smobler Studios refreshing The Alkaff Mansion and its distinguished building patterns in The Sandbox. 1-Group organised the real life mansion counterpart.

Hollywood icon Javier Bardem is about to “donate” a close-up picture of his iris via an NFT as part of a donation scheme aimed at giving light to the people of underdeveloped countries.
