Dan Houser from Rockstar Games backs gaming project based on Overlord NFT project

Revolving Games, a studio backed by the co-founder of Rockstar Games, the company behind the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) franchise, announced they would be developing a new video game in the Overlord ecosystem. The game will be based on the colorful lizard NFTs featured in the Overlord project.

Sci-fi space adventure with lizards

The sci-fi game is set to span multiple planets and universes and will be cross-chain from day one. Overlord co-founder Dom Smith revealed that the game would be an immersive exploration of the Overlord universe, with players battling their way to interplanetary domination through skill, strategy, and cunning.

Players will encounter different alien civilizations, each with their own lore, motivations, and skills. The species will have different styles of conquering their enemies based on their abundance of resources and technological advancements.

The quality of blockchain-based games leaves something to be desired; that is why Overlord’s Web3 gaming strategy is focused on gameplay first and game economics second. Smith added that the team is “laser-focused on mainstream adoption” and that the blockchain has to be invisible. Players should get all the benefits of asset ownership and on-chain mechanics without necessarily being aware that it is happening on-chain.

Getting to know Overlord

In February, Overlord announced that it was working with Stoopid Buddy Studios, owned by NFT fan and actor Seth Green, to develop an animated series based on the Creepz Lizard NFTs. The collection, launched in January 2022 on Ethereum, has generated roughly 35,800 ETH in total trading volume, worth approximately $65 million today. Revolving Games confirmed that Overlord will be using its tools to create a Creepz game.

The game deck for the Creepz collection shows that it has a number of celebrity owners, including Seth Green, musicians Sia and Steve Aoki, actor Elijah Wood, and YouTuber and gamer FaZe Banks. Overlord’s partnership with Revolving Games aims to create a game that provides an immersive experience for players while leveraging the benefits of blockchain technology invisibly.

Valuable backing of Dan Houser

Dan Houser is among the most influential people in the video game industry. He co-founded Rockstar Games in 1998 with his brother Sam and
was instrumental in the success of the studio and its popular GTA, Max Payne, and Red Dead Redemption series.

In 2020, Dan left his position as the creative lead of Rockstar Games and began focusing on the blockchain gaming niche. Last year he joined the advisory board of Revolving Games.

With the backing of Dan Houser and the support of Revolving Games, Overlord is well-positioned to create a game that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in the Web3 gaming space.
