Warner Music Group (WMG) is expanding into gaming with the upcoming launch of Invector: Rhythm Galaxy, a narrative-driven rhythm game developed by Swedish game studio Hello There Games. The game will be released on July 14, 2023, and will be available on PC.
Invector: Rhythm Galaxy will feature a soundtrack of chart-topping hits from renowned artists such as Charlie Puth, PinkPantheress, and Duran Duran. Players will travel to “celestial landscapes” while mastering the beat of the music.
The game is part of WMG’s strategic collaboration with STYNGR, a platform that offers pre-cleared music for games and the metaverse. STYNGR provides game developers with access to pre-licensed tracks from WMG’s music catalog, which includes over 70 million songs.
Invector: Rhythm Galaxy is the latest in a series of moves by WMG to expand into gaming and the metaverse. In January 2023, the company launched Rhythm City, a music-themed social roleplay experience on the gaming platform Roblox. WMG has also invested in Roblox and partnered with NFT marketplace OpenSea, virtual gaming world The Sandbox, and gaming developer Splinterlands.
“This venture into gaming showcases our commitment to reimagining the boundaries of music and how it is defined by artists and fans alike within our evolving ecosystem,” said Oana Ruxandra, Chief Digital Officer and EVP, Business Development at WMG.
“Many of our team members are talented musicians themselves,” said Oskar Eklund, CEO and Founder of Hello There Games. “We are so excited to bring this game to the next level with Warner Music Group and their amazing artists.”
Invector: Rhythm Galaxy is the latest example of how music companies are expanding into gaming and the metaverse. These new platforms offer artists and labels new ways to connect with fans and generate revenue. As the metaverse continues to evolve, it is likely that we will see even more music companies enter this space.
