Actors Rosario Dawson and Tony Revolori will star in the NFT-backed Western anime series Ghosts of Ruin, produced by Gala Film, the entertainment branch of Web3 startup Gala Games. The pilot episode will be available exclusively to NFT holders before being shopped to streaming platforms.
The storyline and stars of Ghosts of Ruin
Set in a near-future dystopian San Francisco, Ghosts of Ruin follows a group of gamers competing in a deadly tournament in which games are integrated directly into players’ minds. Dawson, known for her role as Ahsoka Tano in several Disney+ Star Wars series, will voice the character Prism, a determined pro gamer.

Revolori, who starred in The Grand Budapest Hotel and the latest Spider-Man film franchise, will voice the protagonist Lee, a small-time gamer who enters the tournament last-minute.
NFTs funding the show’s production
The pilot episode, produced and developed by new media content studio Battle Island, will premiere on Gala’s platform in August, accessible only to holders of specialized NFTs that help fund the show’s production.
These NFTs offer varying levels of immersive access to the series, with the most basic tier providing access to the show, exclusive content, and digital collectibles for $250 worth of GALA tokens. The rarest tier, sold for $2,500 worth of GALA each, allowed holders to be directly involved in the show’s production as a character or contributor.
Shopping the Pilot to major streaming services
After premiering the pilot on Gala Film, the series’ producers plan to present it as a proof of concept to major streaming services.
Gala Film CEO Sara Buxton expressed support for the project, highlighting the timely storytelling and top-tier artistic talent involved, as well as the Web3 elements that provide a rewarding experience through digital ownership and benefits.
The team behind Ghosts of Ruin
The series is written by Michael Ryan, who recently served as the showrunner for Apple TV+’s original animated series Wolfboy and The Everything Factory. Ghosts of Ruin was created by Battle Island’s PJ Accetturo and Ryan Ramsey.
The series will also feature original music from composer Hans Zimmer’s Bleeding Fingers collective.
Other Gala projects and recent challenges
Last month, actors Danny Trejo and Mena Suvari joined RZR, another Web3-native series from Gala set to premiere exclusively on the startup’s platform this summer. However, Gala recently faced challenges when cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase announced it would not support an upgraded version of the company’s GALA token without providing an explanation.
Ghosts of Ruin, a Western anime series starring Rosario Dawson and Tony Revolori, will premiere exclusively for NFT holders before being pitched to streaming platforms. The project exemplifies the growing intersection of entertainment and blockchain technology, with NFTs playing a crucial role in funding the show’s production.
