World popular performance artist Marina Abramović is launching her first-ever NFT this week, of The Hero (2001), one of her most private performance art in Tezos, a proof-of-stake blockchain that is considered greener and more energy efficient than others.
In the original piece, Abramovic sits on a white horse fluttering white flag gracefully in the air against a vast landscape of trees and sky in the background. Spain. The piece, released as a film, was in memory and a tribute to his recently deceased father, a war hero from Yugoslavia during the WWII.
Abramović’s NFT of The Hero (2001) will be inaugurated on Tezos, a stake proof of blockchain that is supposed to be more environmentally friendly and less power-intensive than others.
Marina also mentioned that it was “important to her that these NFTs be affordable and environmentally friendly.”
She is planning to declare openly elements of her launched NFT during a discussion with CIRCA Artistic Director Josef O’Connor at Art Basel.
The artist herself revealed that the film was never planned to be an NFT during the stages of its development, and that the decision to make it one was organic, more than anything else.
