The online gaming scene is about to get a significant update as ‘Another World’, a new game allowing NFT avatars to be displayed in a 3D metaverse, is set to launch on the Epic Games Store. Set against the backdrops of Bored Ape Yacht Club and Azuki-themed environments, the game will offer token rewards for players
Otherworldly GameFi release
‘Another World’ presents a unique opportunity for NFT enthusiasts to experience their Bored Apes (BAYC), Clone X, OnChainMonkey, and Azuki NFTs in virtual reality. This metaverse game, however, isn’t officially linked to any of these projects; it simply allows users to relive their NFT adventures in a 3D setting reminiscent of the Apes’ swampy abode and Azuki’s anime-inspired red arches.
Jackie Lee, the creator of Another World, stated in an interview: “People are always imagining what it would be like to live inside those Web3 worlds.” Lee, a graduate of MIT, forms half of Another World’s development team and is the only full-time developer on the project.
Built using the latest graphics engine
Another World is built on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5, a toolkit used by many major game studios. In addition to this, Lee revealed that he received a grant from the Optimism Foundation for the development of the NFT-focused game.
Instead of selling in-game NFTs or cryptocurrency, Another World will feature a Tokenproof integration enabling players to connect their crypto wallets. This feature appears as a QR code board within the game, allowing seamless integration with the players’ digital wallets, thus breaking one of the most significant adoption barriers for blockchain-based games.
In addition, the game is set to offer digital wearables for players’ avatars based on their wallet holdings. According to Lee:
“Players will automatically see certain wearables appear in their in-game inventory based on what coins they own in their connected wallet,”
These free digital wearables will be minted as NFTs on the Ethereum scaling network, Optimism. Players holding over 42 APE, the Bored Ape-themed cryptocurrency, for instance, will receive a blue ApeCoin hoodie in their in-game inventory.
Copyright infringement?
However, concerns about copyright infringement still linger. Lee acknowledges these issues, particularly concerning NFT projects like Bored Apes that offer expansive commercial use rights to NFT owners. He is currently seeking permission to use the BAYC logo in the Ape-inspired environments in ‘Another World’. Lee admitted:
“I’m still talking to them to see if I can properly use the logo. Very likely, it’s not going to be easy.”
In terms of future additions, Lee unveiled plans to introduce a Pepe-themed frog wearable mask for those holding a significant amount of the frog-inspired meme token, PEPE.
