Kellogg’s registers trademarks for NFT ideas, suggesting that it may eventually enter the market for digital collectibles. Popular brands, including Froot Loops, Special K, and Pop-Tarts, are among those covered by the filings.
Kellogg’s ventures into NFT space
A dozen trademark applications for Kellogg’s various brands have been made, and records indicate that the American cereal juggernaut intends to use its intellectual property to develop NFTs.
Separate submissions for each of the twelve Kellogg’s brands were made to the USPTO on May 24, 2023. They consist of the following:
- Froot Loops
- Special K
- Kellogg’s
- Pop-Tarts
- Cheez-It
- Rice Krispies
- Krave
- Eggo
- Mini Wheats
- Bear Naked
- Frosted Flakes

The details of what Kellogg’s intends to do with the trademarks are the same in every submission. Kellogg’s discusses employing its food products in “online virtual worlds” and that its numerous cereals, breakfast bars, and snacks will be converted into NFTs under the goods and services part of the filings.
Although these trademarks have been filed, it’s crucial to remember that this does not mean Kellogg’s will ever release NFT or metaverse-related assets that feature their food goods. That means that Kellogg’s has essentially claimed first refusal, allowing the business to use its intellectual property in any way it sees fit moving forward in the Web3 sphere.
Mercedes-Benz and Fidelity join NFT and metaverse trend
Blockworks contacted Kellogg’s for more information on potential NFT decreases but has not heard back. Other businesses have also submitted trademark applications, asserting that NFTs or the metaverse may eventually play a role in their operations.
One is Mercedes-Benz, which registered five trademarks with the USPTO in December 2022 connected to the metaverse and NFT. Another business that disclosed its plans for the metaverse in December of last year was Fidelity. The asset manager submitted three patent applications for financial planning and investment services in virtual worlds.
