Renault races into NFT space with Sneaker Collection

Renault, the French multinational automobile manufacturer, has announced the launch of its second non-fungible token (NFT) collection, RACING SHOE5, following the success of its first genR5 NFT collection. This innovative offering brings together the worlds of automotive design and fashion, allowing fans to own exclusive, custom-designed sneakers inspired by the iconic R5 Turbo models while engaging with the popular NFT market.

The RACING SHOE5 collection

Renault’s RACING SHOE5 series comprises 960 pairs of sneakers in five custom-designed styles, each inspired by a different flagship R5 Turbo model. A sixth design pays homage to the R5 Turbo 3E, created in collaboration with the R3NLT web3 community. 

Each pair of sneakers is connected to a “digital twin” NFT as a piece of 3D artwork registered on the blockchain. The sneakers will be sold for €265 ($292 approx.), and their corresponding NFTs will be available for purchase online starting May 17, with early access for R3NLT web3 community members from May 15.

Eco-Friendly meets iconic: R5 Turbo-inspired sneaker design

The collector’s edition sneakers feature design elements reminiscent of the R5 Turbo, with rear slopes evoking the car’s chassis, interiors inspired by upholstery, and laces resembling seatbelts. An NFC chip is pre-installed into the shoes, and scanning the chip reveals a second NFT – a certificate of authenticity in the form of a “digital passport.”

This passport contains the shoe’s unique identity card, along with information on its composition, materials, and production history. The sneakers are made using eco-responsible materials, including LWG (Leather Working Group) certified leather, emphasizing Renault’s commitment to sustainability.
