Dungeons and Dragons is no stranger to the world of NFTs

Dungeons and Dragons, a tabletop game that originated in 1974, has remained popular despite numerous revisions and updates. The game has served as the basis for various video games, movies, and TV shows over the years, attesting to its lasting appeal. With its extensive lore and imaginative characters, it is no surprise that Funko has found inspiration in it to create an NFT set.

In February 2023, Wizards of the Coast yielded to criticism from players and content creators. The company announced that it would abandon a game license amendment that had proposed to impose stringent restrictions on NFT spin-offs.

The move came after the company’s January backtrack on some of the proposed changes to the Open Game License (OGL), which included banning the use of NFTs and blockchain technology for third-party monetization of the game’s intellectual property.

Despite the potential of generating additional revenue from third-party ventures, Wizards of the Coast’s meddling in the long-standing OGL that allowed so much community-generated content to flourish drew strong resistance from the Dungeons & Dragons community.

Excitement builds for Dungeons and Dragons Funko NFT set release

The announcement of the Dungeons and Dragons Funko NFT set has stirred up both Funko and Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts due to the set’s intricate and imaginative designs, as well as the exclusive physical collectibles that come with it, leading to a buzz of excitement among collectors.

Funko is also no strager to NFT ventures. The company has collaborated with huge mainstream brands like Warner Bros and intellectual property like Game of Thrones.

As the release date for the D&D-inspired collection draws nearer, fans are eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to acquire these rare NFTs and add them to their collections.
