Emmy-winning, Disney-backed Baobab Studios launches ‘Momoguro’ NFT collection

Emmy-winning Hollywood powerhouse Baobab Studios, known for its groundbreaking virtual reality experiences and short films, has unveiled a new project geared towards families, dubbed Momoguro.

Momos NFTs

In this colorful fantasy world, creatures known as “Momos” join forces to produce hybrid characters. Momoguro’s creators have a multi-pronged approach to the franchise, including a TV show, game, and Ethereum NFT collection.

The genesis NFTs have been made available for purchase at 0.22 ETH (equivalent to $365), while the NFT roleplay game (RPG) will be released in the second quarter of 2023.

Despite not being a Web3 company, Baobab Studios is delving into the potential of using NFTs to captivate audiences with storytelling experiences.

“We believe that stories transcend mediums (…) Our mission is to inspire and arouse a sense of wonder in our audience. We believe that begins by creating remarkable characters and stories, like Momoguro, where you are an active participant in the story.” – Maureen Fan, CEO and Co-founder of Baobab Studios

On the Momoguro franchise’s mint site, players can acquire “Holoselves” which they can use to explore the Uno Plane. The Momoguro RPG is set to debut on ImmutableX, a layer-2 Ethereum scaling solution that boasts NFTs as a fundamental game component. ImmutableX has the capacity to manage as many as 9,000 transactions per second and operates with a carbon-neutral approach.

The creators of Momoguro consider their franchise’s lore to hold a crucial message. “Community involvement is a significant aspect,” stated Nico Cassavecchia, writer-director of Momoguro. “Inclusivity is a top priority for the franchise, from various ethnicities, genders, and body types, Momoguro’s guiding principle is that everyone is accepted.”

Baobab Studios specializes in virtual reality experiences and short films and has won nine Emmy Awards. The company has raised more than $31 million in total funding from well-known companies such as Disney, Samsung, and Comcast. In addition, Pixar Co-founder Ed Catmull and Twitch Co-founder Kevin Lin sit on Baobab’s board.

Despite not being the pioneering Hollywood studio in the release of NFTs or Web3 content, Baobab Studios is more focused on building a sense of community than just generating revenue. To foster engagement, the company has already hosted Twitter Spaces for Momoguro fans, has a sizable Twitter following, and boasts nearly 50,000 members in its Discord server.

Martin Allais and Nico Cassavecchia, the creators of Momoguro, are thrilled to witness their imagination manifest in various media forms. Allais stated:

“Momoguro is a project of passion that we’ve been nurturing for years. We can’t wait to share our vision with a broader audience through this franchise across multiple platforms.”
